Learn about centuries-old traditional food gathering and preparation techniques in Minnesota – from foraging and harvesting manoomin (wild rice) to a modern meal of fried wild rice. Aligned with Minnesota standards, students will learn about Indigenous people and culture in the state and other parts of North America. By engaging the media with discussion questions and activities, students will explore how food connects to culture, identity, and community. Students will also learn about the communities' diversity, encouraging them to view their world in a new way.
